From the bottom of my heart, I want to wish all of you a joyous holiday season! Whatever you celebrate, may it be filled with fond memories. If there is someone you haven’t spoken to in a while, seize the day. I’ve had a tough couple of months and perhaps I’ll relay what’s happened in my life in a different post. When I’m emotionally ready. But the lesson that I’ve known was further enforced. Make every moment you have with a loved one, human or otherwise, count. Don’t take anything for granted. If you’re having a healthy day, appreciate that, soak it in. If you’re frustrated this holiday season, and let’s face it, it is easy to get frustrated with crowds, the pressures of holiday expectations…family. Take a moment, breathe, and remember why you’re ‘doing the things’. It’s spending time together and focusing on what matters to you.
If you’re open to it, I’d like to share a little advice. It’s okay to make something easy. If cooking in a kitchen for hours sounds like the worst way to spend your day, don’t. Everything doesn’t have to be made by you. Delegate or pick up items that make your day easier. My mother’s love language is cooking. She loves to create in the kitchen. I’m pretty sure I can burn water. She’s much older now and handling big items like a turkey is too much. We have a local restaurant provide a cooked bird (for those that partake- I’m a pescatarian) and she fixes whatever side dishes tickles her fancy. Mom’s happy and less tired and everyone else is glad they didn’t have to cook a turkey (or a ham). Depending on what, and how, you celebrate, if you put your creative mind to it, you can find ways to pull some of the stress out and put more of the fun back in. Are you looking for a family friendly game that may seem kiddy but isn’t? I suggest Unstable Unicorns. I’ve witnessed CIS middle-aged men happily argue about whether their unicorn can stay in a stable. The makers of this game have no idea I exist, so believe me when I say this is a recommendation from the heart.
I apologize for the delays on my projects. Here’s hoping you’re able to forgive me and enjoy them when they are available.
Happy Holidays-
Keebs
